Is there any video/audio codec best practices, guides, recommendations for app/web developers for best performance (take advantage from HW acceleration), power consumption saving? What are officially supported media containers? What are video encoding profiles, video dimensions, frame rates? The only official source I have found is https://developer.apple.com/documentation/webkit/delivering-video-content-for-safari?language=objc. But h264 is pretty old. I experimentally found that the VP9 video format is also supported on iOS newer versions. But is this a requirement? Сan i be sure that the video will play on all devices? My goal is to provide web media content (which will be rendered in my application using WKWebView API) that will be supported by most devices (both iOS and MacOS), takes advantage of such features as hardware decode acceleration and be efficient. While implementing Apple Maps into our web application, I have a scenario where I want to be able to drag and move some of my custom annotations around. While that is working, when "picking up" the annotation before dragging it, there is an animation which I believe is to represent the human interaction of picking up a pin from a map, I would like to cancel that animation and thought that would be possible by calling preventDefault() in the emitted long-press event, which the documentation states that annotations should emit if they are draggable. The thing is that I don't get this event to emit when long pressing an annotation. So I believe that I have found a bug. It's in this paragraph in the documentation https://developer.apple.com/documentation/mapkitjs/handling-map-events#Respond-to-map-interaction-events A long press occurs on the map outside an annotation. A long press may be the beginning of a panning or pinching gesture on the map. You can prevent the gesture from starting by calling the preventDefault() method of the event. Annotations need to be draggable to dispatch long-press events. In anybody else experiencing this or do you see any clear fix for this? Maybe there is another way to cancel that "picking up the annotation for dragging" animation. I have seemed to try anything else.

If we use webView.loadFileURL(indexURL, allowingReadAccessTo: readAccessURL) on an iPad it loads the data and navigation works. But if we place two hands on top of the screen and move a bit, all click events are not working anymore. It works again if we call loadFileURL again. We filled a bug report: FB19812304

An Administrator account is executing safaridriver --enable but it doesn't apply to other standard user accounts and standard accounts can't enable it directly. Is this expected behavior? How can standard users make use of safaridriver?

My Mac app and its Safari web extension share an app group, and I want to notify the web extension native process when the app makes a change to the app group NSUserDefaults, but I can't find a good way to do this. According to the documentation, "You can use key-value observing to register observers for specific keys of interest in order to be notified of all updates, regardless of whether changes are made within or outside the current process." In my testing, however, this doesn't work in the web extension process. I'm using NSUserDefaults addObserver forKeyPath, but observeValueForKeyPath never gets called. I've also tried NSDistributedNotificationCenter, but the web extension process doesn't receive the notifications sent by the main app. Are either of these supposed to work? If not, are there any alternatives?

I have multiple web views of the same domain that share the same local storage, as expected. One of them though, is loading a .webarchive file. The web archive is of the same domain, and is loaded using the same base URL. For some reason, in most cases, the local storage is not shared with this web view when loading the web archive, although if I make that same web view load the actual live web page it does share local storage. I say in most cases, because for some users it works as expected, but for a significant portion of users it isn't sharing local storage. I think that the main difference between working and not is iOS version. iOS 17 seems to be able to share the local storage but iOS 18 does not. I can't find anything related in the release notes of iOS 18 versions. There is nothing in the documentation for load(_:mimeType:characterEncodingName:baseURL:), or the header file, that explains anything specific about local storage and webarchive loading. Does anyone know for sure how local storage is handled when a webarchive is loaded into a web view, and did something change with iOS 18 in regards to this?

Hello, I have an authentication flow where my app communicates with a backend protected by F5 client certificate validation. The client certificate is distributed via MDM and is available in the device keychain, but not accessible directly from the app. When using ASWebAuthenticationSession (or SFSafariViewController) Safari can successfully pick up and present the certificate during authentication, so that part works fine. However, the backend’s authenticate endpoint only supports a POST request with an Authorization header, whereas ASWebAuthenticationSession only accepts a GET URL when starting the session. My questions are: How is this type of flow typically implemented in iOS? Should the backend provide a GET-based endpoint that redirects into the POST, or is there a recommended iOS pattern (e.g., an intermediate HTML page that does the POST after certificate validation)? Are there Apple guidelines on handling certificate-based auth with ASWebAuthenticationSession when the API requires POST, especially for In-House distributed apps? Any guidance or best practices would be very helpful.

Hello Apple App Review Team, We are using Privy to enable sign in with Farcaster in our app. Privy is a 3rd party authentication SDK, and it currently opens the authentication URL using the system browser. Unfortunately, this behavior is handled internally by Privy and we do not have access or control to override it in order to present the sign-in flow in-app using SFSafariViewController. We understand the importance of maintaining a seamless and secure user experience, and we fully support the use of SFSafariViewController or ASWebAuthenticationSession. However, since Privy does not expose an option to change this behavior at the moment, we are limited by their current implementation. We have reached out to the Privy team requesting a change or improvement that would allow us to use SFSafariViewController instead of the external browser. In the meantime, we would appreciate your guidance on how to proceed, or whether an exception could be granted due to this 3rd party SDK limitation. Thank you for your understanding and support.

We are encountering a download issue in Safari 18.2 on macOS Sequoia 15.2 where file downloads initiated by our AngularJS application (such as Excel exports) are silently blocked. I can confirm there is actual constant traffic from the server based on my server logs. I am running iOS/macOS 26.

The Rejection Reason: Apple states: "We still noticed that your app includes the ability to collect charitable donations within the app..." They specify that since we are not an approved nonprofit, we must use one of the alternatives, primarily: "provide a link to your website that launches the default browser or SFSafariViewController for users to make a donation." Our Current (Rejected) Implementation: User taps a "Help" button in our native app. A native modal appears inside our app where the user enters their donation amount and email address for the receipt. The user clicks "Donate," which then opens an SFSafariViewController to our website's payment page (e.g., Stripe, PayPal). The amount and email are passed as URL parameters to pre-fill the form. Our Questions for the Community: Is the issue solely the fact that we have a native modal for data entry? Observe that the form appears to hang, loop, or silently fail. Hi everyone, I'm exploring the new app icon appearance options (Clear, Dark, Tinted) for Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) on iOS26, iPadOS26, and macOS26. Currently, PWA icons don't seem to render well with these new appearances, particularly in Clear and Tinted modes, resulting in very very poor visual quality. You can hardly see anything. Has support for these icon appearances been fully implemented for PWAs? If so, could someone point me to the relevant Apple Developer documentation or provide guidance on how to configure PWA icons to support Clear, Dark, and Tinted appearances? I've searched the Apple Developer Forums, Stack Overflow, and Reddit but haven't found clear information on this topic.A possible solution is a png file with transparent areas, but if the pattern is dark, nothing will be visible in dark mode. Due to lack of time I have use lazy method User taps the “Pay” button ↓ Backend generates a payment URL (Toss Payments) ↓ Open the payment page in an external browser (Safari) ↓ User completes the payment in Safari ↓ Return to the app via deep link (borini://payment/success) ↓ Call the payment approval API ↓ Display the payment completion page I have hear such method is possible for our type of service which deals with real life goods. So I would love to know if it is actually possible or will I have to make a new payment method using apple provided payment method in order to pass APP Store Connect review before releasing application

It seems that in iOS 18.5+ built with Xcode 16.4+, there has been a breaking change since 18.4 with 16.3 within WebKit and how the navigationAction.sourceFrame property is initialized when implementing the decidePolicy delegate method.
