GestureComponent does not support DragGesture
The following code using the new GestureComponent demonstrates inconsistency. The tap gesture prints output, but the drag gesture does not. I already checked this post, which points to this seemingly outdated sample code I assume that example is deprecated in favour of the now built in version of GestureComponent. Nonetheless, there are no compiler warnings or errors, it just fails silently. TapGesture, LongPressGesture, MagnifyGesture, RotateGesture all work, so this feels like an oversight. RealityView { content in let testEntity = ModelEntity(mesh: .generateBox(size: .init(x: 1, y: 1, z: 1))) testEntity.position = SIMD3<Float>(0,0,-1) testEntity.components.set(InputTargetComponent()) testEntity.components.set(CollisionComponent( shapes: [.generateBox(size: .init(x: 1, y: 1, z: 1))] )) let testGesture = TapGesture() .onEnded { value in print("Tapped") } testEntity.components.set(GestureComponent(testGesture)) let dragGesture = DragGesture() .onEnded { value in print("Dragged") } testEntity.components.set(GestureComponent(dragGesture)) content.add(testEntity) }

Spatial Scene API for iOS Apps
As part of the WWDC25 Keynote, a technology was announced that can present 2D images as 3D spatial scenes. This announcement is supported by a Press Release. ...developers can use the Spatial Scene API to make their app experience even more immersive. Zillow is taking advantage of the API for their Zillow Immersive app, allowing users to see images of homes and apartments with the rich depth and dimension that spatial scenes offer. The feature also appears in the Photos App on iOS 26 Developer Beta 1. Tapping "Spatial Scene" on any photo opens a view of that photo with a parallax effect. I've searched the WWDC sessions and new documentation and have come up short. Reaching out here for help. Is there any documentation for Spatial Scene API? Or any guidance on how to implement the spatial scene in iOS?

RealityKit animation with bindTarget: .opacity doesn't work
I want to fade objects in and out, and while setting an entity's OpacityComponent works, animating it doesn't seem to do anything. In the following code the second sphere should fade out, but it keeps its initial opacity. On the other hand, the animation that changes its transform works. What am I doing wrong? class ViewController: NSViewController { override func loadView() { let arView = ARView(frame: NSScreen.main!.frame) let anchor = AnchorEntity(.world(transform: matrix_identity_float4x4)) arView.scene.addAnchor(anchor) let sphere = ModelEntity(mesh: .generateSphere(radius: 0.5)) anchor.addChild(sphere) sphere.components.set(OpacityComponent(opacity: 0.1)) let sphere2 = ModelEntity(mesh: .generateSphere(radius: 0.5)) sphere2.position = .init(x: 0.2, y: 0, z: 0) anchor.addChild(sphere2) sphere2.components.set(OpacityComponent(opacity: 0.1)) sphere.playAnimation(try! AnimationResource.makeActionAnimation(for: FromToByAction(to: 0, timing: .linear), duration: 1, bindTarget: .opacity)) sphere.playAnimation(try! AnimationResource.makeActionAnimation(for: FromToByAction(to: Transform(translation: SIMD3(x: 0.1, y: 0, z: 0)), timing: .linear), duration: 1, bindTarget: .transform)) view = arView } }

Looking for some clarification
Was wondering if anyone from Apple could provide some clarification, The gaming studio "Epic Games" Is wondering if they could distribute the award winning game "Fortnite" back on MacOS without any retaliations. I know Fortnite being back on MacOS would benefit thousands of MacOS Devs. Hoping to get a clarification so Epic could start on bringing Fortnite back.

Slow compilation
Hi, I am working with a large project. We are compiling each material to its own .metallib. They all include many common files full of inline functions. Finally we link it all together at the end with a single big pathtrace kernel. Everything works as expected, however the compile times have gotten completely out of hand and it takes multiple minutes to compile at runtime (to native code). I have gathered that I can do this offline by using metal-tt however if I am wondering if there is a way to reduce the compile times in such a scenario, and how to investigate what the root cause of the problem is. I suspect it could have to do with the fact that every materials metallib contains duplications of all the inline functions. Any ideas on how to profile and debug this? Thanks, Rasmus

New GameSave API fails, "Couldn’t communicate with a helper application."
I've been playing with the new GameSave API and cannot get it to work. I followed the 3-step instructions from the Developer video. Step 2, "Next, login to your Apple developer account and include this entitlement in the provisioning profile for your game." seems to be unnecessary, as Xcode set this for you when you do step 1 "First add the iCloud entitlement to your game." Running the app on my device and tapping "Load" starts the sync, then fails with the error "Couldn’t communicate with a helper application." I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. Every other time I've used CloudKit it has Just Worked™. Halp‽ Here is my example app: import Foundation import SwiftUI import GameSave @main struct GameSaveTestApp: App { var body: some Scene { WindowGroup { GameView() } } } struct GameView: View { @State private var loader = GameLoader() var body: some View { List { Button("Load") { loader.load() } Button("Finish sync") { Task { try? await loader.finish() } } } } } @Observable class GameLoader { var directory: GameSaveSyncedDirectory? func stateChanged() { let newState = withObservationTracking { directory?.state } onChange: { Task { @MainActor [weak self] in self?.stateChanged() } } print("State changed to \(newState?.description ?? "nil")") switch newState { case .error(let error): print("ERROR: \(error.localizedDescription)") default: _ = 0 // NOOP } } func load() { print("Opening gamesave directory") directory = GameSaveSyncedDirectory.openDirectory() stateChanged() } func finish() async throws { print("finishing syncing") await directory?.finishSyncing() } }

Subject: Handling Z-Up Blender USDZ Models in RealityKit (visionOS) for Transform Updates
Hello everyone, I'm working on a visionOS application using RealityKit and am encountering a common coordinate system challenge when integrating 3D models created in Blender. My goal is to display and dynamically update the Transform (position, rotation, scale) of models created in Blender within RealityKit. The issue arises because Blender's default coordinate system is Z-up, and while exporting to USD/USDZ, I don't have a reliable "Y-up" export option that correctly reorients the model and its transform data for RealityKit's Y-up convention. This means I'm essentially exporting models with their "up" direction along the Z-axis. When I load these Z-up exported models into RealityKit, they are often oriented incorrectly. To then programmatically update their Transform (e.g., move them, rotate them based on game logic, or apply physics), I need to ensure that the Transform values I set align with RealityKit's Y-up system, even though the original model data was authored in a Z-up context. My questions are: What is the recommended transformation process (e.g., using simd_quatf or simd_float4x4) to convert a Transform that was conceptually defined in a Z-up coordinate system to RealityKit's Y-up coordinate system? Specifically, when I have a Transform (or its translation, rotation, scale components) from a Z-up context, how should I apply this to a RealityKit Entity so it appears and behaves correctly in a Y-up world? Are there any existing convenience APIs or helper functions within RealityKit, simd, or other Apple frameworks that simplify this Z-up to Y-up Transform conversion process? Or is a manual application of a transformation quaternion (e.g., simd_quatf(angle: -.pi / 2, axis: [1, 0, 0])) the standard approach? Any guidance, code examples, or best practices from those who have faced similar challenges would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Game Center breaks RealityView world tracking
Has anyone come across the issue that setting GKLocalPlayer.local.authenticateHandler breaks a RealityView's world tracking on iOS / iPadOS 18 beta 5? I'm in the process of upgrading my app to make use of the much appreciated RealityView unification, using RealityView not only on visionOS but now also on iOS and iPadOS. In my RealityView, I enable world tracking on iOS like this: content.camera = .worldTracking However, device position and orientation were ignored (the camera remained static) and there was no camera pass-through. Then I discovered that the issue disappeared when I remove the line GKLocalPlayer.local.authenticateHandler = { viewController, error in // ... some more code ... } So I filed FB14731139 and hope that it will be resolved before the release of iOS / iPadOS 18.

iOS 26 Games app: Wired Switch Pro controllers (and GameSir X5 Lite) not working correctly
Hi, Since iOS 26 introduced the new Games app, I’ve noticed a problem when using a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller in wired USB-C mode, and also with third-party controllers that emulate it (like the GameSir X5 Lite). In the Games app interface, only the L/R buttons respond, but the D-Pad and analog sticks don’t work at all. Once inside actual games, the controller works fine — the issue only affects the Games app UI. What I’ve tested so far: Xbox / PlayStation controllers → work fine in both wired and Bluetooth, including inside the Games app. Switch Pro Controller (Bluetooth) → works fine, including in the Games app. Switch Pro Controller (wired) → same issue as the X5 Lite, D-Pad and sticks don’t work in the Games app. This makes it hard to use the new Games app launcher with these controllers, even though they work perfectly once a game is launched. My question: is this an iOS bug (Apple needs to add proper support for wired Switch Pro controllers in the Games app), or something that Nintendo / GameSir would need to address? Thanks in advance to anyone who can confirm this or provide more info.

Apple Unity plugin issue
I use unity 2020.3.48f1 to develop a game; trying to implement Apple Services integration I use Apple unity plugins(https://github.com/apple/unityplugins) Using latest version of unity plugins I getting error in Unity project after plugin import It say "Not allowed platform VisionOS" When I tryed to use older version of the plugins I getting error on runtime when calling "var fetchItemsResponse = await GKLocalPlayer.Local.FetchItems();" in line 42 it drop EXC_BAD_ACCESS(code=257, address=0x0000...) error I tryed to use different commits from official repositorys and even custom branches of apple unity plugins like (https://github.com/muZZkat/unityplugins/tree/muzzkat/fix-fetch-items) but it did not help There is whole my script which trying to use apple unuity plugins using System.Threading.Tasks; using UnityEngine; using System.Collections; using System; using Apple.GameKit; using UnityEngine.UI; public class TheScript : MonoBehaviour { [SerializeField] InputField otp; string Signature; string TeamPlayerID; string Salt; string PublicKeyUrl; string Timestamp; void Start() { StartCoroutine(Call()); } private IEnumerator Call() { yield return new WaitForSeconds(5); Login(); } public async Task Login() { otp.text += $"Loginig... Skybox for iOS/swiftUI not working
I have tried every combination of suggestions to get a skybox to appear. Using swiftUI, realityKit and iOS. Non immersive environment. Does anyone have code that works to display a skybox. When i use a do/catch loop i get environmentResource not found. I have checked the syntax, ensured the folder is referencing the target, used the same name for the folder as the file, the file is a .hdr (i assume this is supported), i have moved the file folder to the top level - no change.

Resources for Retro style Games wanting 90 degree Window corners
I've been thinking of bringing some older games back to the modern Mac. Rewriting old titles in Swift but using the original data files that assume use of non-rounded corners Windows. Many of these games require all the Window space of a 90 degree cornered Window. Can anyone point me at some useful workarounds or Is Apple simply deaf to the needs of this type of product?

Race conditions when changing CAMetalLayer.drawableSize?
Is the pseudocode below thread-safe? Imagine that the Main thread sets the CAMetalLayer's drawableSize to a new size meanwhile the rendering thread is in the middle of rendering into an existing MTLDrawable which does still have the old size. Is the change of metalLayer.drawableSize thread-safe in the sense that I can present an old MTLDrawable which has a different resolution than the current value of metalLayer.drawableSize? I assume that setting the drawableSize property informs Metal that the next MTLDrawable offered by the CAMetalLayer should have the new size, right? Is it valid to assume that "metalLayer.drawableSize = newSize" and "metalLayer.nextDrawable()" are internally synchronized, so it cannot happen that metalLayer.nextDrawable() would produce e.g. a MTLDrawable with the old width but with the new height (or a completely invalid resolution due to potential race conditions)? func onWindowResized(newSize: CGSize) { // Called on the Main thread metalLayer.drawableSize = newSize } func onVsync(drawable: MTLDrawable) { // Called on a background rendering thread renderer.renderInto(drawable: drawable) }

Custom GCController subclass for new hardware?
Hi all, Wondering how I would go about creating a plugin/class to support a new (physical/hardware) device with the game controller framework? Between GCVirtualController on iOS and the "KeyboardAndMouseSupport.bundle" I see inside GameController.framework on my Mac, it looks like the framework must be designed to support this but I can't find any documentation. Thanks!

RealityKit and USDZ: Winding Order Issue with Negatively Scaled Meshes
Hi all, I've encountered a potential issue with how the winding order of geometry is handled when their transformations involve negative scaling. I created a simple test asset, a single triangle, to demonstrate this. The triangle's vertices are defined in a counter-clockwise ("right-handed") winding order, and its transform has a negative scale on the X-axis. According to the OpenUSD specification, this negative determinant in the transformation matrix should effectively reverse the winding order of the geometry: However, any given gprim's local-to-world transformation can flip its effective orientation, when it contains an odd number of negative scales. This condition can be reliably detected using the (Jacobian) determinant of the local-to-world transform: if the determinant is less than zero, then the gprim's orientation has been flipped, and therefore one must apply the opposite handedness rule when computing its surface normals (or just flip the computed normals) for the purposes of hidden surface detection and lighting calculations. When I view the asset in tools like Blender or Preview on macOS, it behaves as expected. The triangle's effective orientation is flipped to CW. However, when the same asset is viewed in Reality Composer Pro or with QuickLook on iOS, its effective orientation remains CCW. In other words, the triangle faces the opposite direction. My questions for the community and Apple are: Is this behavior in RealityKit a known issue? If this is a known issue, is there official guidance for DCC tools on how to export USDZ assets to ensure they appear correctly in the Apple ecosystem? Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

How to Apple Unity Plugins
When running my game in the Unity Editor on Windows platform I get an error: DllNotFoundException: GameKitWrapper assembly:<unknown assembly> type:<unknown type> member:(null) Apple.GameKit.DefaultNSErrorHandler.Init () (at ./Library/PackageCache/com.apple.unityplugin.gamekit@0abcad546f73/Source/DefaultHandlers.cs:35) This is because GameKitWrapper dynamically linked library is not available under Windows platform. Besides, "Apple Build Settings" are declared under UNITY_EDITOR_OSX and also not available under Windows platform. Does anyone managed to solve this?

App Freezes on iPadOS 26.x - GPU Metal Errors
I work on a Qt/QML app that uses Esri Maps SDK for Qt and that is deployed to both Windows and iPads. With a recent iPad OS upgrade to 26.1, many iPad users are reporting the application freezing after panning and/or identifying features in the map. It runs fine for our Windows users. I was able to reproduce this and grabbed the following error messages when the freeze happens: IOGPUMetalError: Caused GPU Address Fault Error (0000000b:kIOGPUCommandBufferCallbackErrorPageFault) IOGPUMetalError: Invalid Resource (00000009:kIOGPUCommandBufferCallbackErrorInvalidResource) Environment: Qt 6.5.4 (Qt for iOS) Esri Maps SDK for Qt 200.3 iPadOS 26.1 Because it appears to be a Metal error, I tried using OpenGL (Qt offers a way to easily set hte target graphics api): QQuickWindow::setGraphicsApi(QSGRendererInterface::GraphicsApi::OpenGL) Which worked! No more freezing. But I'm seeing many posts that OpenGL has been deprecated by Apple. I've seen posts that Apple deprecated OpenGL ES. But it seems to still be available with iPadOS 26.1. If so, will this fix (above) just cause problems with a future iPadOS update? Any other suggestions to address this issue? Upgrading our version of Qt + Esri SDK to the latest version is not an option for us. We are in the process to upgrade the full application, but it is a year or two out. So, we just need a fix to buy us some time for now. Appreciate any thoughts/insights....

Request to restore full ICC profile support (LUT-based display profiles) in macOS ColorSync
Dear Apple Color Management Team, I’m a professional visual creator working on color-critical photo and graphic projects using macOS (currently 26.1 Tahoe). In recent macOS releases, LUT-based ICC display profiles (such as XYZ LUT + Matrix types generated by DisplayCAL or professional spectrophotometers) can no longer be installed or activated via ColorSync. This limitation significantly affects professional workflows in photography, graphic design, prepress, and video color grading — fields that rely on precise display profiling. The current workaround (converting LUT profiles to simple shaper/matrix ICC v2) results in less accurate tone response and color reproduction, particularly in the dark range and wide-gamut displays. I kindly request Apple to restore or re-enable the ability to install and use ICC v2/v4 LUT-based display profiles under ColorSync, as was possible on macOS Monterey and Ventura. This would allow professionals to continue using trusted calibration tools such as DisplayCAL, X-Rite i1Profiler, and Calibrite Profiler to achieve accurate color management. macOS is widely used in professional creative industries, and restoring this feature would be a huge help for countless photographers, designers, and colorists. Thank you for your attention and commitment to professional users. Best regards, Richárd Deutsch Professional Photographer https://riccio.hu/ MacBook Pro (M4 Pro, macOS 26.1)

Metal: Intersection results unstable when reusing Instance Acceleration Structures
Hi all, I'm encountering an issue with Metal raytracing on my M5 MacBook Pro regarding Instance Acceleration Structure (IAS). Intersection tests suddenly stop working after a certain point in the sampling loop. Situation I implemented an offline GPU path tracer that runs the same kernel multiple times per pixel (sampleCount) using metal::raytracing. Intersection tests are performed using an IAS. Since this is an offline path tracer, geometries inside the IAS never changes across samples (no transforms or updates). As sampleCount increases, there comes a point where the number of intersections drops to zero, and remains zero for all subsequent samples. Here's a code sketch: let sampleCount: UInt16 = 1024 for sampleIndex: UInt16 in 0..<sampleCount { // ... do { let commandBuffer = commandQueue.makeCommandBuffer() // Dispatch the intersection kernel. await commandBuffer.completed() } do { let commandBuffer = commandQueue.makeCommandBuffer() // Use the intersection test results from the previous command buffer. await commandBuffer.completed() } // ... } kernel void intersectAlongRay( const metal::uint32_t threadIndex [[thread_position_in_grid]], // ... const metal::raytracing::instance_acceleration_structure accelerationStructure [[buffer(2)]], // ... ) { // ... const auto result = intersector.intersect(ray, accelerationStructure); switch (result.type) { case metal::raytracing::intersection_type::triangle: { // Write intersection result to device buffers. break; } default: break; } Observations Encoding both the intersection kernel and the subsequent result usage in the same command buffer does not resolve the problem. Switching from IAS to Primitive Acceleration Structure (PAS) fixes the problem. Rebuilding the IAS for each sample also resolves the issue. Intersections produce inconsistent results even though the IAS and rays are identical — Image 1 shows a hit, while Image 2 shows a miss. Questions Am I misusing IAS in some way ? Could this be a Metal bug ? Any guidance or confirmation would be greatly appreciated.
