MapKit JS quota limits
Hello, I’m planning to use MapKit JS for a production web/mobile application and I’m trying to better understand the quota limits and pricing model. From the documentation, I understand that MapKit JS provides a free daily limit of: 250,000 map views 25,000 service calls per Apple Developer Program membership. However, I’m not clear about what exactly happens if these limits are exceeded. My questions: If my application exceeds 250,000 map views or 25,000 service calls in a day, what happens? Will the API simply start returning errors (for example HTTP 429), or will Apple automatically charge for additional usage? Is there an official pricing model for usage above the free quota, or do we need to contact Apple to request higher limits? Are these limits strict daily hard limits that should never be exceeded in production? I’m trying to design the architecture of my application and would like to understand whether we must strictly stay below these limits or whether scaling beyond them is possible. Thank you.

BackgroundLocationIndicator Bubble in iOS26
I display the BackgroundLocationIndicator (blue/white bubble in status bar) in all my apps, that use background location service. Up to iOS 18 it allowed the user to tap on the bubble from within any other non fullscreen app and bring the app using the background location service to the foreground. In iOS26 this only works from the home screen. Is this intended behaviour or a bug ? If intended, please provide us with an option to allow the user to keep the pre iOS26 behavour. This was a quite convenient shortcut to jump directly to the locationservice using app.

MapKit Snapshot API returning blank dark blue images — started today
Issue: MapKit Snapshot API returning blank dark blue images instead of satellite tiles as of March 4, 2026. This is affecting production and we need urgent assistance. Endpoint: snapshot.apple-mapkit.com/api/v1/snapshot Symptoms: HTTP 200 response with a valid image file, but image is a solid dark navy frame with only the Apple Maps watermark — no satellite data. Occasionally a correct satellite image is returned, but the vast majority are blank. Parameters: t=satellite, 640x640. Confirmed not caused by code changes (none made), auth errors or rate limiting (status is 200), or an invalid image format (image is well-formed, just blank). API keys have been rotated and the issue persists. The intermittent correct responses suggest a backend tile-serving issue on Apple's side rather than anything client-related. Started: March 4, 2026. Same requests that worked prior to this date now consistently fail. Please see the attached sample images for reference. ASAP resolution is appreciated as this is actively impacting production. MKDirections returns "Directions Not Available" when A and B are outside mainland China (e.g. Tokyo–Osaka)
I use MapKit and MKDirections for driving directions. The error "Directions Not Available" appears when the two points (A and B) are outside mainland China (e.g. Tokyo → Osaka). For routes inside China (e.g. Shanghai → Beijing), the same code works. let req = MKDirections.Request() req.source = MKMapItem(placemark: MKPlacemark(coordinate: origin)) req.destination = MKMapItem(placemark: MKPlacemark(coordinate: destination)) req.transportType = .automobile MKDirections(request: req).calculate { response, error in // Tokyo–Osaka (outside China): "Directions Not Available" // Shanghai–Beijing (inside China): works } Questions: Is MKDirections intended to support only routes within the device’s region (e.g. China)? When A/B are abroad, is "Directions Not Available" expected? Is this documented? For cross-country or overseas routes (e.g. Tokyo–Osaka), what is the recommended approach—third-party routing API + drawing on MapKit? Thanks.

`MKLocalSearchRequest` change in behavior
aka MKLocalSearch.Request in Swift. Today my users reported that our address auto-complete functionality was returning strange results. We narrowed the issue down to pointOfInterestFilter being set. Sample code below: MKLocalSearchRequest *request = [[MKLocalSearchRequest alloc] init]; request.region = self.region; request.naturalLanguageQuery = addressString; request.resultTypes = MKLocalSearchResultTypeAddress; request.pointOfInterestFilter = [MKPointOfInterestFilter filterIncludingAllCategories]; That last line is the problem. When I stopped setting request.pointOfInterestFilter the MKLocalSearch started working as it always had. To further hammer home the point, with request.pointOfInterestFilter unset I set resultTypes to MKLocalSearchCompleterResultTypePointOfInterest (aka .pointOfInterest) and the issue returned. It seems Apple made a change on their backend recently such that pointOfInterestFilter now overrides resultTypes.

CLMonitor API Missing Geofence Entry Events After Initial Registration
We are experiencing a failure in CLMonitor event delivery when the application is launched into the background via an APNS (Remote Push Notification). Even when a CLBackgroundActivitySession is instantiated immediately upon background launch, CLCircularGeographicCondition "Enter" events are suppressed. The system fails to deliver these events until the user manually brings the application to the Foreground. This indicates that CLBackgroundActivitySession does not correctly maintain background persistence when the session begins in a background state rather than transitioning from the foreground. Comparison of API Behavior (Background State) Launch via APNS: CLMonitor: Fails to trigger "Enter" events until the app is manually brought to the foreground. Legacy API: Successfully triggers and delivers "Enter" events immediately upon background launch. Exit Event Reliability: CLMonitor: Reliably triggers exit events even in the background. Legacy API: Reliably triggers exit events. Foreground Dependency: CLMonitor: Requires a foreground transition to "flush" or activate the delivery of pending entry events. Legacy API: No foreground transition required; events are delivered directly to the background process. Event Recovery: CLMonitor: Relies on the developer re-instantiating the CLMonitor and awaiting the events stream, which appears to "stall" during warm-starts. Legacy API: Relies on the CLLocationManagerDelegate which remains active as long as the manager instance exists. Steps to Reproduce Preconditions: Location Permissions: Set to "Always Allow". Background Modes: "Location updates" and "Remote notifications" enabled. App State: Terminated or Killed (by the user or the OS). Reproduction Path: Trigger Background Launch: Send a silent push notification (APNS) to wake the app in the background. Initialize Session: Within the background launch sequence (e.g., didFinishLaunchingWithOptions), immediately create and hold a strong reference to a CLBackgroundActivitySession. Register Monitor: * Initialize CLMonitor using requestMonitorWithConfiguration. Add a geofence using addConditionForMonitoring with a CLCircularGeographicCondition. Simulate Entry: Move the physical device (or simulate location) into the geofence boundary while the app remains in the background state. Observe: No "Enter" event is received in the CLMonitor event stream. Foreground Transition: Bring the app to the foreground. Actual Result: The "Enter" event is only delivered the moment the app enters the Foreground. Expected Result: The CLBackgroundActivitySession should enable CLMonitor to deliver "Enter" events immediately in the background, parity with the deprecated startMonitoringForRegion API.

Background execution window after CLBeaconRegion wake from terminated state
Hello, I am using CLLocationManager to monitor multiple CLBeaconRegion instances (up to 20). When the app is terminated by the system (not force-quit) and a region enter event occurs, the app is relaunched in the background. I have two questions: What is the expected execution time window after relaunch before the app is suspended again? Is it supported to start short CoreBluetooth operations (e.g., scanning or connecting briefly) within this window? I understand that force-quitting the app disables background relaunch, so this question applies only to system-terminated apps.

Scene-based Launch Detection
Our app supports UIScene. As a result, launchOptions in application(_:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:) is always nil. However, the documentation mentions that UIApplication.LaunchOptionsKey.location should be present when the app is launched due to a location event. Given that our app is scene-based: How can we reliably determine whether the app was launched due to a location update, geofence, or significant location change? Is there a recommended pattern or API to detect this scenario in a Scene-based app lifecycle? This information is critical for us to correctly initialize location-related logic on launch. iBeacon Monitoring in Flutter App: Background Wake-Up from Killed State, Time Limits for BLE, and Handling Multiple Regions/Identifiers
Hello Apple Developer Community, I'm developing a cross-platform app using Flutter and the flutter_beacon library to handle iBeacon detection on iOS. My goal is to wake up the app in the background when it's in a killed/terminated state upon entering/exiting beacon regions, allowing for BLE communication (e.g., ranging or connecting to beacons). I've configured the necessary Info.plist keys for always location access and background location modes, and it works partially for single regions, but I have some specific questions/issues regarding reliability and limitations: Background Execution Time After Wake-Up: When the app is woken in the background by a region monitoring event (enter/exit) from a killed state, approximately how much time (in seconds) does iOS allocate for the app to run before suspending it again? Is this sufficient for performing BLE operations like ranging beacons or establishing a short connection, or are there stricter limits in terminated wake-ups compared to standard background modes? Monitoring Multiple iBeacons with Unique Identifiers: I need to monitor multiple iBeacon devices, each with potentially different UUIDs, majors, and minors. Can I add and monitor up to 20 regions simultaneously, each with a unique string identifier? If multiple beacons (from different regions) enter their respective ranges at around the same time, will the app receive separate callbacks for each region/identifier, or is there coalescing/prioritization that might cause only the last-added identifier to trigger notifications/events? Reliability in Killed State: In a fully killed state (e.g., force-quit via app switcher), does iOS reliably relaunch the app in the background for region monitoring events? Are there any known caveats, such as requiring specific hardware (e.g., iPhone models with certain Bluetooth chips) or iOS versions (targeting iOS 14+), and how does this interact with Flutter's background execution handling via the flutter_beacon library?

Disable userLocationAnnotation bubble
Hello, thanks for your effort! I found that when showsUserLocation is set to true (by default), the pulsing blue dot user location annotation is shown, which is cool and beautiful. However, it will automatically and periodically attempt to call the Apple Server API GET https://api.apple-mapkit.com/v1/reverseGeocode within userLocationDidChange() and updateUserLocationAnnotation() to display, I assume, the user's current address when single-tapping on the blue dot. It will significantly use the MapKit service calls quota since the user location is automatically updated. It almost runs out of quota even though the map initialization is plenty enough. Is there any way to disable the bubble behavior but preserve the user location blue dot, which is lovely and better than drawing my own user location dot? It seems I can only turn off all user location features. Many thanks!

Does Showing User's Current Location on the Map Require 'NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription'?
I have a desktop application that shows some real estate properties chosen by the user. The application shows those GPP locations on the map. And I'm hit with two review rejections. Guideline 5.1.1 - Legal - Privacy - Data Collection and Storage Issue Description One or more purpose strings in the app do not sufficiently explain the use of protected resources. Purpose strings must clearly and completely describe the app's use of data and, in most cases, provide an example of how the data will be used. Guideline 5.1.5 - Legal - Privacy - Location Services The app uses location data for features that are not relevant to a user's location. Specifically, the app is not functional when Location Services are disabled. So I wonder if the application is even required to have 'NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription' and/or 'NSLocationUsageDescription'? just in order to show user's current location so that they can see property locations relative to it? The exact location privacy statement is the following. The application needs your permission in accessing your current location so that it will appear on the map

Does anyone know how to achieve this custom MKAnnotation?
I’ve notice that in Maps, some pins contain images and do not have the little triangle at the bottom of it, yet they still animate the same when clicked. How could this be achieved? I believe the name of this annotation is MKMapFeatureAnnotation. I've tried this and it did not give the same result. I'm able to create a custom MKMarkerAnnotationView but it does not animate the same (balloon animation like the MKMapFeatureAnnotation). I was looking forward to create a custom MKMapFeatureAnnotation similar in design which would animate the same. Unfortunately, I cannot create a custom MKMapFeatureAnnotation because everything is privated

NSLocationDefaultAccuracyReduced not taking effect after app update (YES -> NO) for first-time location authorization
Hello Apple Developer Technical Support / Core Location Team, I’m requesting clarification on the effective timing of the Info.plist key NSLocationDefaultAccuracyReduced. We shipped Version A with NSLocationDefaultAccuracyReduced = YES (reduced accuracy by default). In Version B we changed it to NO. After updating to Version B, on devices/users that have not previously granted location authorization for our app, the first authorization flow still behaves as if reduced accuracy is the default (i.e., the same behavior as Version A). Could you please confirm: When iOS evaluates/caches NSLocationDefaultAccuracyReduced (install time, app launch, or at first authorization prompt)? After an update changes this key from YES to NO, should the new value apply to users who have never authorized location for the app? Environment: Iphone 16 (IOS 26.0) I can provide a sysdiagnose and additional logs if needed. Thank you, Jack

why mapkit js does not have LookAroundSceneRequest
I want to update coordinate of the lookaround instance object. But mapkit.js does not have LookAroundSceneRequest class, how am I going to do. In swift, there is MKLookAroundSceneRequest class, you can specify a new coordinate with this class, to get a new LookAroundScene object, then attach new LookAroundScene to the existing lookAround object, But how am I going to do the same with mapkit.js ?? it missing LookAroundSceneRequest class in js

ITMS-90118: Invalid routing app setting:
Hi everyone, I’m running into an App Store Connect issue that seems to be a misclassification, and I’m hoping someone (or Apple staff) can help clarify or advise. App: Quick Quote Calculator Platform: iOS (built with Expo) App type: Business No navigation, routing, maps, or turn-by-turn directions When submitting a new build, App Store Connect returns: ITMS-90118: Invalid routing app setting To upload a routing app coverage file, you must define the app binary as a routing app. However: There is no “Routing & Navigation” section in App Information There is no “Routing App Coverage File” section under App Store No routing metadata or coverage file has ever been uploaded The app does not provide routing or navigation functionality It appears the binary itself is being classified as a routing app, but there is no UI in App Store Connect to view or remove this classification. What I’ve tried Verified app metadata and screenshots Confirmed no routing/navigation APIs are used Reviewed Info.plist permissions (no routing language) Uploaded a new build with incremented build number Has anyone run into a case where a routing flag is applied at the binary level and the Routing App options are not exposed in App Store Connect? Is the only resolution to have Apple manually remove the routing classification via App Review / Developer Support? Any insight from Apple staff or devs who’ve resolved this would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance! Yes — the app is strictly a business quote calculator for trades. It calculates distance (Miles via addresses) but does not display maps, routes, directions, or navigation of any kind.

LocationButton (SwiftUI) broken or changed in iOS 26?
I just spend the morning debugging LocationButton and the associated CLLocationManagerDelegate only to realise that it works perfectly in iOS 18.5 but no longer works for me in iOS 26.0, 26.2 or 26.2.1 (the latter on-device). It does work when I run my app on macOS 26.2 (Designed for iPad). Is there a change in behaviour or requirements on iOS I am missing? On iOS 18.5 I observe that the authorisation status changes from .notDetermined to .authorizedWhenInUse after the LocationButton has been tapped and my delegate is able to obtain the location through locationManager(_ , didUpdateLocations:). On iOS 26.x the authorisation status remains .notDetermined and my delegate receives locationManager(_:didFailWithError:) with error code .denied. Setting NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription in my Info.plistdid not help. Just in case ;) FB21798098 (SwiftUI LocationButton fails to acquire authorization on iOS 26)

Errors with PerfPowerTelemetryClientRegistrationService and PPSClientDonation when running iOS application in Xcode
I've suddenly started seeing hundreds of the same block of four error messages (see attached image) when running my app on my iOS device through Xcode. I've tried Cleaning the Build folder, but I keep seeing these messages in the console but can't find anything about them. Phone is running iOS 26.1. Xcode is at 16.4. Mac is on Sequoia 15.5. The app is primarily a MapKit SwiftUI based application. Messages below: Connection error: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=4099 "The connection to service named com.apple.PerfPowerTelemetryClientRegistrationService was invalidated: Connection init failed at lookup with error 159 - Sandbox restriction." MKReverseGeocodingRequest and CNPostalAddress from MKMapItem
My app is currently using CLGeocoder to get a CLPlacemark, then using placemark.postalAddress with CNPostalAddressFormatter to get an attributed string for the full address, I then enumerate its attributes to pull out specific elements like just the street or state or zip etc. This is deprecated in iOS 26 with MKReverseGeocodingRequest being the intended replacement. This API returns an MKMapItem which doesn’t provide a CNPostalAddress - you can get a full address as a String but not structured address data that I’m seeing. Am I missing some way to get the postal address? Or is it a non-goal to provide that anymore? Thanks!
